“Dementia does not rob someone of their dignity. It’s our reaction to them that does.”

Fall 2025 - Dementia Live Events

Dementia Friendly BCS hosted several powerful Dementia Live™ experience Events in the Fall of 2025.

Through a hands-on simulation, community members were able to step into the shoes of someone living with dementia—experiencing the confusion, frustration, and sensory changes that often go unseen.

The event helped participants unpack, process, and better understand the realities of dementia while offering practical tools for empathy, communication, and support.

Together, we’re building a more compassionate, dementia-aware community—one experience at a time.

June 2025 - Community Kick-Off Event

June 12, 2025

Today, at the Community & Caregiver Kick-Off, over 100 guests joined us for one unforgettable message: You are not alone. And there is power in understanding.

Dr. Tam Cummings, PhD delivered a masterclass in compassion—walking us through stages of dementia, misunderstood behaviors, and the weight caregivers carry in silence.

We learned:

  • Why someone may look “fine” while losing their sense of time

  • How to track behaviors like repetitive motions, aggression, or confusion

  • That anger or wandering may be pain in disguise

  • And that you can’t always see dementia—but you can feel its impact

We are so thankful to everyone who made today possible, and to every caregiver who shows up for their loved one, day after day, with love and exhaustion in equal measure.

Together, we are building a dementia-friendly community—one of support, respite, education, and grace.
